MODULARIZATION CEILING HOIST SYSTEMS

Project description

As Project manager, I have run the largest development project in Guldmann's history, right from idea to implementation of the last product 10 years later. It was a complete new modularized product portfolio of Ceiling- and Mobile hoist and rail systems. 

Task/Process
  • Collect and structure Guldmann's 25 years global knowledge of the this market
  • Collecting and analyzing customer requirements around the world
  • User-driven design- and based on continuous user involvement 
  • Redesigning the supply chain and outsourcing of nearly all component and module production to China, Taiwan and Ukraine
  • Managing the project with external product development teams in Taiwan and Ukraine
  • In charge of brand new design strategy and design manual
  • Invention protection and patent work
  • Modularization of the complete ceiling- and mobile hoist lifting systems
Results
  • Reducing part numbers by 54 % 
  • Simple configuration of sales variants by simple replaceable design modules and SW configurations
  • Reducing cost prices significantly and at the same time increasing performance and features
  • Releasing complete portfolio after 3-4 years and then releasing new variant every 3-12 month until 2015
  • Receiving the Red Dot Design award

WALL MOUNTED RAIL SYSTEM

Project description

The target was to design a rail system that was fast to install and as low in cost as possible on a very tight time schedule.

  • FMEA and risk management
  • Instalation manual

Project description

Develop brand new Grundfos variant based on competitors technology and double up the production volume at the current factory facilities in Germany. After closing down and large development project of development new hot water recirculator pump, Grundfos bought a competitor, and I got the task to run this project from idea to launch as a project manager.

UPS CIRCULATER REDESIGN AND COST DOWN

Project description

Quality improvement and cost reduction on Grundfos Cash Cow.
Redesign terminal box, power terminals and speed selectors. Visual redesign of the complete pump taking full automatic assembly factory into account. This product was already at this time produced in very high volume, at that time 6.000.000 pumps/year.

Task/Process
  • Investigation and analyze all years of failure rates
  • Hands on, separating and investigating hundreds of pumps to find and categorize potential quality improvements

  • Implementing Wago spring terminal connectors
  • Implementing self tapping screw technology
  • Implementing two component injection molding at Grundfos for sealing terminal boxes and cable relief

  • Remarkable cost reduction on a product that has already been cost optimized for 20 years
